The Federal Aviation Administration has issued regulations for the registration and operation of drones (defined by the FAA as small unmanned aircraft systems and known by the FAA acronym sUAS), in time for the 2015 holiday season.
Drones are now widely available in retail stores and online. Thousands are expected to be given as gifts during the holiday season, placed in operation by individuals having little, if any, experience with the aviation system.
Registration is required before the first flight of an sUAS outdoors, even if only for recreational purposes. Registration can be performed online.
