After lurking on the Food Frenzy leaderboard for more than a week, King & Spalding vaulted to the top Tuesday. At 3:55 p.m., the firm held a lead of more than $2,000 over the legal department at Serta Simmons Bedding ($6,570) and Miles Mediation & Arbitration ($6,500) in the race to raise funds for the Atlanta Community Food Bank.

The friendly competition helps organizations like Community Outreach in Action, an agency in Jonesboro that distributed 283,000 pounds of free food last year, including healthy snacks to children in a new program called “Kids’ Zone Food Pantry.” Janice Dixon, the group’s director, said the monthly program allowed children to pick out their own food. “They feel empowered,” she said.
