Despite an invitation shared on social media for the investiture ceremony installing Judge Stephen Dillard as chief of the Georgia Court of Appeals Wednesday, the outgoing chief judge confessed she was afraid it wouldn't happen.

“I had an anxiety ridden dream last night that—despite all the Facebook and Twitter—none of you showed up and I would have to continue doing this job,” Chief Judge Sara Doyle said to a crowd that packed the courtroom at 10:30 a.m. “I am happy to welcome you.”

Doyle's term as chief, which ends June 30, has included the expansion of the court from 12 to 15 judges, and the expansion of the workload with the addition of property, family law and other cases that previously went straight to the Georgia Supreme Court.
