One trial stands out among many for Stephanie Parker of Jones Day in Atlanta. It lasted just under two weeks. The verdict was $2.54 billion. (Yes, with a B.)

That made her worth over $1.27 billion a week as leader of the trial team representing her client, Merck subsidiary Idenix Pharmaceuticals, in a federal court in Delaware last December.

At stake: the validity of a Merck patent for hepatitis C treatment in a case against Gilead Sciences. The jury found that Gilead owed Merck 10 percent royalties on $25.4 billion in sales. It was the biggest patent infringement verdict in U.S. history.
