A 2015 plane crash in Colombia during the filming of the Tom Cruise movie “American Made,” already the subject of at least five lawsuits in California and Georgia, has spawned more litigation in federal court in Atlanta.

A complaint filed last week by four production companies being sued in California seeks to have the Georgia company responsible for maintaining the aircraft, S&S Aviation Inc. in Ball Ground, declared at least partly responsible for any attorney fees and damages resulting from multiple wrongful death and survivor actions stemming from the crash. Two men died and one was seriously injured.

Originally titled “Mena,” “American Made” is set to be released in late September. It is the story of Barry Seal, a onetime TWA pilot who turned to drug and gun-smuggling for the Medellin Cartel and was recruited by the Drug Enforcement Agency during the 1980s to try to capture cocaine kingpin Pablo Escobar. Seal was shot to death in 1986 in Louisiana; three men from the cartel were convicted of murder.
