Professors' Suit Targets Ga. Campus Carry Law
The professors claim the legislation signed into law earlier this year violates a mandate that the state Board of Regents has sole authority over management of Georgia's state universities and colleges.

A half-dozen professors from three Georgia universities have sued Gov. Nathan Deal and Attorney General Chris Carr over claims Georgia's campus carry bill violates the state's constitution.
The hotly debated legislation allowing licensed gun owners to carry firearms nearly anywhere on state college and university campuses, which was passed and signed into law earlier this year, allegedly violates the constitutional mandate that the state Board of Regents retains sole authority over the “government, control, and management of the University System of Georgia.”
The campus-carry bill in conjunction with the “right to carry law” allowing guns to be carried anywhere in the state not specifically prohibited, and the “preemption provision,” which bars any city, county or the political subdivision from regulating guns, work to “usurp the Board of Regents' constitutionally conferred, exclusive authority” to control Georgia campuses.

The action, filed Oct. 7 in New York Southern District Court by the Brown Law Firm, accuses the company's directors and/or officers of falsely expressing confidence in the company’s restructuring of its sales incentive plan and downplaying the severity of decreases in its upfront commitments. The suit was filed Sept. 7 in Wisconsin Western District Court by Levine Eisberner LLC and Siri & Glimstad on behalf of a project manager who claims that he was wrongfully terminated after applying for a religious exemption to the defendant's COVID-19 vaccine mandate. The complaint was filed Sept. 4 in Connecticut District Court by attorney Robert M. Berke on behalf of former employee George Edward Steins, who was arrested and charged with employing an unregistered home improvement salesperson. The complaint alleges that had Sunrun informed the Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection that the plaintiff's employment had ended in 2017 and that he no longer held Sunrun's home improvement contractor license, he would not have been hit with charges, which were dismissed in May 2024.
