On behalf of the State Bar of Georgia, I would like to express condolences to the family, colleagues and many friends of Catherine M. O'Neil, a partner with King & Spalding in Atlanta, on her recent and very untimely passing.

During her distinguished career of 27 years in the legal profession, Ms. O'Neil served as an assistant U.S. attorney for the Northern District of Georgia, as an assistant deputy attorney general in the U.S. Department of Justice and as the national director of the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force Program prior to joining King & Spalding, where her practice was focused on civil and criminal regulatory enforcement, parallel civil litigation, internal corporate investigations and compliance counseling.

A resident of Dunwoody, Ms. O'Neil was also the longtime director of the Atlanta Bar Association's Bard Show, “A Courthouse Line,” an annual original musical theater production written, produced and performed by a cast of dozens of lawyers and judges. The show is the Atlanta Bar's largest charitable fundraiser, having raised hundreds of thousands of dollars over the years to support the Summer Law Internship Program, Truancy Intervention Program, various pro bono efforts and a scholarship fund for children of law enforcement officers killed or injured in the line of duty. The Atlanta Bar honored her for those efforts at its annual leadership luncheon in February.

Catherine O'Neil's exemplary lifetime of service is an inspiration to all Georgia lawyers. As we remember her many professional contributions, our thoughts and prayers are with her husband, Justice David E. Nahmias of the Supreme Court of Georgia, their two sons and the entire family.
