The Judicial Council of Georgia has announced plans to gather at the Anderson Conference Center in Macon on Oct. 20 from noon to 3:30 p.m.

The group is to hear remarks from Georgia Supreme Court Chief Justice P. Harris Hines. He chairs the council as part of his leadership responsibilities for the high court, a role he stepped into in January.

Also on the agenda are reports from the Judicial Workload Assessment Committee, the Strategic Plan Committee, the Access, Fairness, Public Trust and Confidence Committee, the Education and Training Committee, and the Misdemeanor Bail Reform Committee. State Rep. Andy Welch, R-Locust Grove, is on the agenda to give a legislative report.

In August, the council approved a new judicial position for the Cobb County Superior Court on the recommendation of the workload committee. Hines once served on that court.

The 27-member council meets several times a year to act on policy and administrative matters of concern to the judiciary. Judges of the appellate and trial courts at all levels are members, as well as a representative of the State Bar of Georgia.

The group's next meeting after this one is scheduled to be held at the Carter Center in Atlanta on Dec. 8.
