Fisher & Phillips has sharply increased the size of its Seattle office through a merger with local labor and employment boutique Michael & Alexander, which handles employment law and litigation, civil litigation, professional negligence and cyber risk matters for management.

The boutique's name partners, Suzanne Kelly Michael and Stephanie Alexander, joined the national labor and employment firm as partners, bringing with them Matt Macario as of counsel and associates Kathleen Kline, Claire Marshall and Thomas Vogliano. Four staff members are also making the move.

Michael and Alexander said in a statement that they were attracted to the Atlanta-based labor and employment firm's “national reach” for serving their clients.

The addition of the Michael & Alexander lawyers and staff expands Fisher & Phillips' Seattle office to 13 lawyers and 16 staff, including a business immigration practice supported by five paralegals. The Atlanta-based firm has more than 350 lawyers nationwide in 32 offices.

Fisher & Phillips opened the Seattle office—its 31st—in 2015 with Davis Bae, who joined as the local managing partner along with two additional partners, Nick Beermann and Catharine Morisset. The three were all shareholders at rival national labor and employment firm Jackson Lewis.

“The attorneys and staff joining us from Michael & Alexander fit in perfectly with our firm culture of providing top-notch legal services, understanding our clients' business needs, and working in a collegial and inclusive atmosphere,” Bae said in a statement.

Another national labor and employment firm, Ogletree, Deakins, Nash, Smoak & Stewart, also based in Atlanta, opened its own Seattle office in 2015, a few months after Fisher & Phillips.
