Three candidates have qualified to compete for one open seat on the Fulton County Superior Court in the May 22 nonpartisan election.

Judge Tom Campbell plans to retire Dec. 31 when his current term ends, according to his judicial assistant, Eric Owens. Campbell has served the court since former Gov. Sonny Perdue appointed him in 2004. He was a member of the Georgia House of Representatives for 15 years before that. He had a solo private practice based in Roswell. He also served as a magistrate judge in Mountain Park and a municipal court judge in Ball Ground. He's a 1964 graduate of the University of Georgia law school.

The candidates for Campbell's job are: Kevin Farmer, Fani Willis and Bobby Wolf.

Farmer is a senior assistant district attorney in Clayton County. He has also worked in private practice defending clients, according to his Twitter feed. He earned a J.D. from Mercer University law school in 1996.

Willis is a prosecutor in Fulton County District Attorney Paul Howard's office. Her current title is deputy district attorney. She was previously a senior assistant DA. She has also worked as an assistant solicitor general. She received her law degree from Emory University in 1996. She earned a B.A. in political science at Howard University, according to her LinkedIn page.

Wolf is a prosecutor in the office of Gwinnett County District Attorney Danny Porter. He has also prosecuted cases in Fulton County and Cobb County, according to his Facebook page. He earned a law degree from the University of South Carolina and was admitted to the State Bar of Georgia in 1992.

Besides Campbell's open seat, six other Fulton County Superior Court positions are on the ballot for May 22. All those judges qualified last week to run with no opponents. The winning judges are: Jane Barwick, Christopher Brasher, Kelly Ellerbe, Craig Schwall, Paige Reese Whitaker and Robert McBurney.
