Georgia members of the U.S. Senate, both Republicans, made a media splash of their meetings this week with Judge Brett Kavanaugh of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit, President Donald Trump's nominee for the U.S. Supreme Court.
Sen. Johnny Isakson's press office sent out a news release with a silent video of a visit Tuesday in an office filled with cameras.
“My meeting today with Judge Kavanaugh confirmed what constitutional experts, legal scholars and his own clerks have said: He is eminently well-qualified to serve on the Supreme Court and has a strong commitment to our Constitution and the rule of law,” Isakson said in the news release. “Judge Kavanaugh has a strong record of applying the law as it is written without regard to his personal views, which is exactly what a judge should do.”

Sen. David Perdue met with Kavanaugh Thursday, starting off with a “brief media spray only” with this caveat: “No audio or questions will be permitted.”
Later in the day, Perdue released a statement giving Kavanaugh his “strongest support.”
“After meeting with Judge Kavanaugh, I have no doubt that he is exactly the kind of justice we need on the United States Supreme Court: an independent jurist and ardent defender of the Constitution,” Perdue said. “We discussed his commitment to the Constitution and lessons he has learned throughout his time on the Court of Appeals. Judge Kavanaugh's impressive academic and legal record make him an outstanding choice by President Trump.”
Kavanaugh is also a friend, mentor and former boss of Georgia Supreme Court Justice Britt Grant, whose nomination to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit won approval of the Senate Judiciary Committee Thursday. Isakson and Perdue have already voiced their support for Grant and urged a speedy confirmation of her nomination.
