The Florida Judicial Qualifications Comission has brought a new judicial ethics case against former Broward Circuit Judge John Contini, who is accused of faking hearings to avoid work.

Contini stepped down on July 6, the same day he submitted his resignation to Gov. Rick Scott.

But despite his departure, the JQC issued a notice of formal charges against Contini late Monday, but the document, which seemed to have inadvertently been posted, was no longer publicly available Tuesday morning. It’s not uncommon for judges defending against disciplinary charges to resign in lieu of facing the proceedings against them. But this move — filing a new charge after a judge steps down — would be unusual for the JQC, which typically drops the charges once a judge has resigned.
