Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough, Eversheds Sutherland and Arnall Golden Gregory have announced new partner promotions for 2019—and these announcements indicate healthy class sizes, as did earlier ones from King & Spalding, Kilpatrick Townsend & Stockton and Morris, Manning & Martin.
Eversheds Sutherland and Arnall Golden are based in Atlanta, while South-Carolina-based Nelson Mullins has one of its largest offices here. All promotions are effective Jan. 1.
Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough
One-quarter of Nelson Mullins' 24 new partner promotions are in Atlanta. The six Atlanta lawyers the firm has elected to partner are: Douglas Flaum, Erin Reeves McGinnis and Cheryl Shaw (who were of counsel) and Dennis Hom, Joshua Reif and Andrew Rosenzweig (who were associates).
Flaum focuses on real estate and finance matters throughout the United States, including senior, mezzanine and equity financing, as well as acquisitions, dispositions, development, foreclosures and workouts. He was previously a managing director of Turnstone Group, a real estate investment manager.
McGinnis handles securities transactions, including public and private offerings of securities, corporate governance and compliance issues, with a specific emphasis on real estate investment trusts (REITs). She's also worked in-house with an investment and asset management company.
Shaw is a transactional attorney who has advised on commercial real estate, finance (public and private), contracts, SPLOST, public procurement, mergers, acquisitions and education law.
Hom is a litigator handling product liability, pharmaceutical and medical device litigation and business disputes. Reif's practice focuses on commercial lending and real estate capital markets. Rosenzweig is a litigator who handles product liability, pharmaceutical and medical device defense, premises liability, and commercial litigation and arbitration.
Arnall Golden Gregory
Arnall Golden has promoted three lawyers to partner and they are all based in Atlanta: Brooke Dickerson and Jeff Friedman, who were of counsel, and Megan Mitchell, who was an associate.
Dickerson practices real estate, construction and environmental law, and before joining Arnall Golden was an assistant regional counsel with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's Region IV. For her environmental work, she advises on site assessment and remediation pertaining to brownfields, solid waste and wetlands laws as well as Superfund (CERCLA), hazardous waste (RCRA and HWMA) and the Georgia Hazardous Site Response Act (HSRA).
Friedman is a corporate and securities lawyer with a focus on venture capital and private equity firms, which he's advised on mergers and acquisitions ranging from $10 million to more than $500 million. He also advises tech and health care companies. The Pro Bono Partnership of Atlanta has recognized Friedman as a volunteer of the year for his counsel to Atlanta nonprofits on governance and other matters.
Mitchell is a business litigator whose experience includes defending against claims made under the Fair Credit Reporting Act and other consumer protection laws. She also handles employment disputes and advises employers on discrimination claims, wage-and-hour issues and other matters.
Eversheds Sutherland
Two of Eversheds Sutherland's six newly elected U.S. partners are in Atlanta: Darryl Smith and Jesse Lincoln.
“Each of these colleagues has made a significant impact within their respective practice areas and provided superior service to our clients,” said the firm's co-CEO, Mark Wasserman, in a statement. “Their contribution to Eversheds Sutherland's ongoing growth and success is vital, and I wish them continued success on this significant milestone in their careers.”
Smith, in the energy and infrastructure practice, advises clients, including electric cooperatives and other utilities and investment banks, on capital market offerings, such as debt financing, with respect to compliance to federal securities law reporting obligations. He's served clients as company counsel, underwriter's counsel and bond counsel.
Lincoln handles construction litigation and arbitration, representing owners, developers, architects, contractors and other parties in disputes. He's handled construction disputes for power plants, cement plants, paper mills, mixed-use commercial developments and tech projects. Lincoln also represents clients in construction transactions, advising on a variety of contracts.
