Pro Bono Partnership of Atlanta, which matches volunteer lawyers with local nonprofits, recognized outstanding volunteer attorneys for their pro bono efforts at its annual reception on March 20 at Troutman Sanders' offices in Midtown. Turner Broadcasting System was named Corporation of the Year for its contributions of time and legal expertise in helping Atlanta-area nonprofits. Since 2006, 76 volunteers from Turner have worked on 267 pro bono projects for PBPA. Jones Day received the Law Firm of the Year Award, recognizing its more than 115 attorneys who have volunteered with PBPA, including 35 during 2018. The 2018 Happy Perkins Award was presented to John Fleming, pro bono partner at Eversheds Sutherland. This award is named for Happy Perkins, who helped bring Pro Bono Partnership to Atlanta when he was general counsel of GE Energy. PBPA also honored several individuals with Volunteer of the Year Awards, including Anne Cox- Johnson of King & Spalding, Creighton Frommer of Relx Group, Steve Kennedy of Seyfarth Shaw, Gail Gunnells of Gail Gunnells P.C., Kirk Domescik of Duane Morris and Del Winn of QuesTech International. Kristina Griffin of FordHarrison received the inaugural Rising Star Award. John Moeller, CEO of Inspiritus (formerly Lutheran Services of Georgia) and a PBPA client, shared how the legal services provided through PBPA have aided his organization. Inspiritus provides refugee assistance, disaster relief, adoption and foster care services in Georgia and Tennessee.
