The Georgia Supreme Court has granted an emergency stay in the case of Ryan Duke, who was scheduled to begin trial Monday for 2005 in the death of former beauty queen and schoolteacher Tara Grinstead, after his lawyers said they had no money for essential experts and an investigator.

With three justices dissenting, the court agreed to postpone Duke’s trial so that his pro bono lawyers can present their arguments that the state or Irwin County, where Duke is to be tried, must provide the necessary funding.
