A man seeking to be Savannah's next mayor has been arrested on aggravated stalking charges.

The Savannah Morning News reports Pooler Police arrested Anthony Oliver on Tuesday.

The arrest comes after a protective order was issued against Oliver in Effingham County Superior Court that prohibited him from contacting or approaching the petitioner. It was unclear whether Tuesday's arrest was related to that order.

It was unknown if Oliver is represented by an attorney who could comment on his behalf.

Oliver, who said he was a student at Atlanta's John Marshall Law School, announced his mayoral candidacy Jan. 17 with a pledge to reduce crime.
