Continuing its push into Canada, national labor and employment firm Ogletree, Deakins, Nash, Smoak & Stewart has added a partner in Montreal, Lucie Guimond.
Before joining Ogletree, Guimond was a partner in Canadian-British firm Gowling WLG and then had her own firm.
The outpost is the 850-lawyer labor and employment firm's second location in Canada. It opened a Toronto office at the beginning of 2016 headed by Hugh Christie. He'd previously chaired the national labor and employment practice for Gowlings, which became Gowlings WLG after its 2017 merger with U.K. firm Wragge Lawrence Graham & Co.
The Toronto office, which started with Christie plus partner Ed Majewski and associate Michael Comartin, also from Gowlings, has grown to eight lawyers since its launch three years ago.
“As we continue to serve clients across Canada, establishing a presence in Montréal with a talented and pragmatic professional like Lucie is a natural response to client demand,” said Christie, the managing partner of Ogletree Deakins' Canadian operations, in an announcement.
“We know Lucie well for her skill, responsiveness, and collaboration and are very excited to have her join our practice at Ogletree,” Christie said.
Guimond, who's been in practice for 30 years, represents clients in the airline, food, retail, manufacturing and distribution industries. Her practice includes advocacy and advisory work in labor and employment law for employers in the private and public sectors, including M&A transactions.
She represents clients in both English and French language proceedings and counsels them on labor relations, occupational health and safety, workers compensation issues, privacy law and human rights.
Ogletree, which is headquartered in Atlanta, has been steadily building out an international presence. Besides Canada, it has offices in Mexico City, London, Paris and Berlin.
Last year, the firm ranked No. 72 among the Am Law 200, a list of the highest-grossing U.S. firms, with $469.5 million in revenue. It ranked No. 90 in the Global 200.
Note: This story has been updated to reflect that Montreal is not counted among Ogletree's formal office locations.
