After a major change Wednesday, the lead pack Thursday mostly stayed put in the Legal Food Frenzy fundraiser for the Atlanta Community Food Bank and seven counterparts around the state.

The Georgia Tech legal department was still far in front, with $11,630, more than double the second-place team (and defending champion) it overtook on Wednesday, Joe S. Habachy PC.

However, the teams from the Office of the Attorney General and from Hudson Parrott Walker disrupted the lead group. As of 9:30 p.m. Thursday. they were in seventh and eighth places, respectively.

The competition is timed to restock food bank shelves around the state for summer, when children can't get access to reduced-price or free lunches at school. One in five children in the state of Georgia is “food insecure,” meaning they do not know when they'll eat next.

The leaderboard Thursday night looked like this: Georgia Institute of Technology Office of Legal Affairs (captains Susann D. Estroff and Kate Wasch), $11,630; Joe S. Habachy PC (Joe Habachy), $5,605; King & Spalding (no captain listed), $4.025; Alston & Bird (Cheryl Naja), $3,830; McGuireWoods (Elizabeth Arnettt Buckley), $2,595; Arnall Golden Gregory (Winifred Rice), $2,515; Office of Attorney General (Katelyn Byrd), $2,377; Hudson Parrott Walker (Laura Desautel), $2,295; Squire Patton Boggs (Deborah Lempogo), $2,050; and Baker & Hostetler (Emily Spiller), $1,925.

The competition ends next Friday, May 3, so there is a lot of time left to raise money and even join. Information can be found here.

The event is co-sponsored by Georgia Attorney General Chris Carr, the Young Lawyers Division of the State Bar of Georgia and the Georgia Food Banks Association.
