What drew you to a career in law?

In my elementary school days, my family and teacher chose this career for me. In high school, I started listening to them and decided to explore the law. My first true introduction to the law was shadowing my cousin Donnie Hoover, a Mecklenburg County Superior Court judge, in his private practice. That experience helped me see the law through the counseling lens. We met clients in their homes, and they always thanked Judge Hoover for helping them make it another day. I wanted to do something to help people, not for the gratitude but just to help someone have the positive thinking that tomorrow can be better than today.

Have you set a specific goal that you want to achieve in the next year?

Absolutely! This year, my family has made financial planning a priority, so we have been implementing fun, low-energy “side-hustles” to pay off our debts and indulge in guilty pleasures. At the end of this year, I plan to have at least $20,000 of debt eliminated!

What has been your proudest career moment and your biggest hurdle?

Proudest Career Moment: Being able to defend a client in a jury trial in my second year at ELS and impeaching a witness during live testimony.

Biggest Hurdle: Gaining and maintaining confidence in my abilities and myself. With the mindset shift, I tell myself every day, “I'm a rock star.”
