JNC Sends Kemp Shortlists for Four New Judgeships
Gov. Brian Kemp’s office released the names Tuesday on shortlists to fill four judicial vacancies—one in Bibb County, one in Bullock County and two in DeKalb County.

The Georgia Nominating Commission has recommended candidates to Gov. Brian Kemp for openings in Macon, Statesboro and Decatur.
Kemp’s office released the names Tuesday on shortlists to fill four judicial vacancies: one in Bibb County, one in Bullock County and two in DeKalb County.
|Bibb County State Court
The governor has a spot to fill after appointing Judge Jeffery O. Monroe to the Superior Court of the Macon Judicial Circuit. The nominees are:
• Rebecca Liles Grist, solicitor general, Bibb County State Court;
• Kevin B. Hicks, owner, founder and managing attorney, The Law Offices of Kevin B. Hicks & Associates; and
• Sharrell F. Lewis, chief assistant solicitor general, Bibb County.
|Bulloch County State Court
Judge Gary L. Mikell is set to retire Sept. 1. “A couple of years ago I started putting people in jail who were not born when I started this job,” Mikell told the Statesboro Herald in an interview last week. “That’s when you start thinking, well, maybe my shelf life is starting to expire.”
Mikell’s current four-year term won’t expire at the end of 2020. So Kemp will name his successor. The nominees are:
• Joseph Cushner, solicitor general, Bulloch County State Court;
• V. Sharon “Sharri” Edenfield, solo practitioner, Edenfield Law, Statesboro; and
• Benjamin T. Edwards, assistant district attorney, Ogeechee Judicial Circuit.
|DeKalb County State Court
The State Court of DeKalb County has two openings following the appointments of Judge Shondeana Crews Morris and Judge Stacey K. Hydrick to the Stone Mountain Judicial Circuit Superior Court.
For the DeKalb County State Court, Jury Division, the nominees are:
• Kimberly Anderson, Robbins Ross Alloy Belinfante Littlefield;
• Nora L. Polk, associate magistrate judge, Magistrate Court of DeKalb County; and
• Brian K. Ross, DeKalb County State Court, Traffic Division judge.
For the DeKalb County State Court, Traffic Division, the nominees are:
• Kimberly A. Alexander, assistant county attorney, Fulton County;
• Omotayo B. Alli, chief administrative officer, Fulton County Juvenile Court; and
• Juwayn Haddad, DeKalb County Magistrate Court judge.

Driscoll from Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Dorr have stepped in to represent Symbotic Inc., an A.I.-enabled technology platform that focuses on increasing supply chain efficiency, and other defendants in a pending shareholder derivative lawsuit. The case, filed Oct. 2 in Massachusetts District Court by the Brown Law Firm on behalf of Stephen Austen, accuses certain officers and directors of misleading investors in regard to Symbotic's potential for margin growth by failing to disclose that the company was not equipped to timely deploy its systems or manage expenses through project delays. The case, assigned to U.S. District Judge Nathaniel M. Gorton, is 1:24-cv-12522, Austen v. Cohen et al.

The action, filed Oct. 7 in New York Southern District Court by the Brown Law Firm, accuses the company's directors and/or officers of falsely expressing confidence in the company’s restructuring of its sales incentive plan and downplaying the severity of decreases in its upfront commitments. The suit was filed Sept. 7 in Wisconsin Western District Court by Levine Eisberner LLC and Siri & Glimstad on behalf of a project manager who claims that he was wrongfully terminated after applying for a religious exemption to the defendant's COVID-19 vaccine mandate. The case, assigned to U.S. Magistrate Judge Anita Marie Boor, is 3:24-cv-00630, Secker, Nathan v. Epic Systems Corporation.

David X. Sullivan, Thomas J. Finn and Gregory A. Hall from McCarter & English have entered appearances for Sunrun Installation Services in a pending civil rights lawsuit. The complaint was filed Sept. 4 in Connecticut District Court by attorney Robert M. Berke on behalf of former employee George Edward Steins, who was arrested and charged with employing an unregistered home improvement salesperson. The complaint alleges that had Sunrun informed the Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection that the plaintiff's employment had ended in 2017 and that he no longer held Sunrun's home improvement contractor license, he would not have been hit with charges, which were dismissed in May 2024.
