Jobs for nine new judges will be on the table when the Judicial Council of Georgia meets Friday at 10 a.m. in the Anderson Conference Center of Macon.

The Judicial Workload Assessment Committee will present a case for approval of new positions in judicial circuits across the state: Atlanta, Atlantic, Cobb, Coweta, Flint, Mountain, Northern, Ogeechee and South Georgia. Required documentation of workload and population growth in those areas is included in a 168-page agenda posted on the council’s website.

If the council approves, the new judicial positions would go to the Georgia General Assembly for a vote in 2020.

Georgia Supreme Court Chief Justice Harold D. Melton chairs the 27-member council. Members include Presiding Justice David Nahmias, the chief and presiding judges of the Georgia Court of Appeals, judges from courts around the state and a representative from the State Bar of Georgia.

Also Friday, the council’s Budget Committee will present recommendations for Amended Fiscal Year 2020 and Fiscal Year 2021. Other council committees making reports Friday include: Legislative, Technology, Strategic Plan and Grants.
