Prosecutors and legal aid lawyers are joining forces to host an event to model healthy dating, warn parents and families about signs of relationship violence and help victims heal.

"Secrets & Stilettos: Sex, Scandals and Scars," is to be held on Sept. 28 at the Anderson Conference Center in Macon, 5171 Eisenhower Parkway, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The annual event will be hosted by the Georgia Legal Services Program and Macon Judicial Circuit District Attorney David Cooke.

"It's vital that our community do all that we can to prevent domestic violence and to hold offenders accountable," Cooke said in a news release about the event. "I'm thankful that we could partner with Georgia Legal Services again this year to educate the public and help victims heal."

Keynote speaker Jerhonda Pace will talk about her experience as a domestic violence victim. She was featured in Lifetime's docuseries "Surviving R. Kelly."

Macon Judicial Circuit Superior Court Judge Verda Colvin is scheduled to lead parents in a discussion about warning signs that their children may be victims of dating violence. Crisis Line & Safe House of Central Georgia will host a "Domestic Violence 101″ seminar. Licensed marriage and family therapist Stefanie Hughes will lead a panel discussion about the importance of victims seeking assistance from mental health providers and reducing the stigma and shame associated with domestic violence.

"We want to provide a safe space for everyone to come in and learn about dating violence and hopefully help prevent domestic violence in our community," said Tomieka R. Daniel, managing attorney of the Georgia Legal Services Macon regional office. Attendees are asked to RSVP by Sept. 21 by emailing [email protected] or by calling 478-751-6500 ext. 6260. The event has a Facebook page, too.
