Davis, Matthews & Quigley shareholder Elizabeth Lindsey, a longtime leader in the Atlanta family law bar, is the new president-elect of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers.

Lindsey exclusively practices family law and domestic relations at Davis, Matthews & Quigley, which is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year. She received the American Association of Matrimonial Lawyers' Fellow of the Year Award last year.

The organization, founded in 1962, "promotes the highest degree of professionalism and excellence in the practice of family law, according to its mission statement. It has more than 1,650 fellows nationally, including 33 in its Georgia chapter, according to its website.

Admission standards are stringent: Among the requirements, members must have been in practice for at least 10 years, with 75% or more of their practice for the last five years devoted to matrimonial and family law, including substantial trial experience, and they must be active in their local family law bar, with leadership and teaching experience.

"Elizabeth has devoted her career to understanding complex financial and psychological issues to help people through one of the most difficult times in their lives," said Davis, Matthews & Quigley's managing shareholder, Mina Elmankabady.

Lindsey, who will become the president of the American Association of Matrimonial Lawyers in November 2020, has held numerous leadership positions in family law, both in Georgia and nationally, over her 30-plus years in practice. She is a past president of the Georgia chapter of the American Association of Matrimonial Lawyers and the chair of the State Bar of Georgia's Family Law section.

She is a fellow of the American College of Family Trial Lawyers and the International Academy of Family Lawyers. Lindsey is also a fellow of the American College of Trial lawyers, which is a distinction applying to no more than 1% of any states' attorneys, and the Litigation Counsel of America, an invitation-only, trial lawyer honor society limited to 3,500 members nationally.

A Brookhaven resident, Lindsey is a member of the Atlanta Speech School's advisory board and the Junior League of Atlanta.
