Troutman Sanders and Five Other Atlanta Firms Announce Partner Promotions
The six firms, which also include Bondurant Mixson & Elmore, Swift Currie and Smith Gambrell & Russell, promoted a total of 18 lawyers to partner in Atlanta.

In the Daily Report's latest roundup of partner promotions, six firms, all based in Atlanta, have announced a total of 18 new partners in their local offices. Those firms include Troutman Sanders; Swift, Currie, McGhee & Hiers; Bondurant Mixson & Elmore; Krevolin & Horst; Smith Gambrell & Russell and Meunier Carlin & Curfman.
This follows earlier announcements of 2020 partner promotions from Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough; Jones Day; Eversheds Sutherland; Morris Manning & Martin; King & Spalding and other firms.
All promotions were effective Jan. 1.
|Troutman Sanders
Troutman Sanders reported the highest number of promotions, electing 16 lawyers to partner, including six in Atlanta: Matthew Brooks, Christopher "Rusty" Close, Heather Ducat, Gary Knopf, David Norden and Alexandra Peurach.
Brooks has a bankruptcy and restructuring practice, representing public and private companies, financial institutions, creditors, trustees and other clients in corporate restructurings, distressed acquisitions and dispositions and litigation. Close, an intellectual property lawyer, handles patent applications and IP agreements for tech companies, manufacturers, universities and other higher education institutions. Ducat advises public companies in corporate and transactional matters, including debt and equity offerings, mergers and acquisitions and corporate governance issues.
Knopf has a commercial real estate practice, advising clients on the acquisition, financing, disposition and development of office, retail and mixed-use properties. He also handles commercial leases. Norden, a litigator, defends multinational companies in commercial, consumer fraud, product liability and toxic tort litigation nationally, including companies in the pharmaceutical, medical device, health care, tech, energy and transportation industries. Peurach, also a litigator, defends Fortune 500 companies and others in commercial disputes including breach of contract cases, securities and shareholder class actions, and fiduciary duty and corporate governance-related matters.
|Bondurant Mixson & Elmore
Litigation boutique Bondurant Mixson & Elmore has elected two new partners. Fredric "Rick" Bold Jr. handles complex, high-stakes trial and appellate business litigation, specializing in contract, fraud and business tort matters. Patrick Fagan represents both plaintiffs and defendants in complex business litigation in state and federal courts. His practice focuses on trial litigation involving the financial, technology, real estate and services sectors.
|Swift, Currie, McGhee & Hiers
Litigation defense firm Swift, Currie, McGhee & Hiers has promoted seven attorneys to partner, including five in its Atlanta headquarters. They are: Joanna Jang, Myrece Johnson, Dan Kingsley, Crystal McElrath and Blake Staten.
Jang has a workers compensation defense practice representing employers, insurers, self-insureds and third-party administrators. She also handles business litigation in state and federal court. Johnson defends insurance bad faith claims, product and professional liability actions, catastrophic injury and wrongful death claims and general tort litigation in Georgia and the Southeast.
Kingsley focuses on transportation law, premises and products liability cases in Georgia, defending motor carriers, their drivers and insurers in litigation stemming from motor vehicle collisions. McElrath practices workers compensation defense as well as employment law defense and counseling with a focus on disability and leave laws in Georgia. Staten defends employers and their insurers, including companies in poultry processing, wholesale food distribution and trucking, in Georgia cases that involve significant bodily injury and high exposure.
|Krevolin & Horst
General practice boutique Krevolin & Horst has elected Michael Karamat and Wesley Turner to partner. Karamat handles corporate finance transactions, representing both financial institutions and companies in multimillion dollar transactions, as well as business acquisitions and dispositions. Turner has a commercial real estate and corporate practice, representing owners, developers and lenders in transactions for multifamily housing, retail, commercial and industrial properties and advising middle-market companies on corporate transactions.
|Meunier Carlin & Curfman
Intellectual property firm Meunier Carlin & Curfman has promoted two new partners. Jessica Keesee handles patent prosecution, IP portfolio management and litigation for mechanical, medical device and electrical technologies. Don Prather prosecutes patents for the pharmaceutical, chemical and biotech industries, representing research universities and institutions.
|Smith Gambrell & Russell
Smith Gambrell & Russell has elected three new partners, including Greg Smith, who practices in its Atlanta headquarters and Washington, D.C. Smith has a government contracts and construction practice, handling procurement and construction contracts as well as dispute resolution and litigation. He serves on the steering committee for the International Construction Division of the American Bar Association Forum on Construction Law and was recently appointed as Southeast regional director of the Society of Construction Law North America.
|Cantor Colburn
In another promotion, IP firm Cantor Colburn has named to counsel Tanmay Dharmadhikari, a patent attorney in its Atlanta office. Dharmadhikari, a software developer before becoming a lawyer, prosecutes and litigates patents with a focus on software and electrical hardware. He has advised clients on patents pertaining to mobile, network, data storage and navigation devices, among others.

The case, filed Oct. 2 in Massachusetts District Court by the Brown Law Firm on behalf of Stephen Austen, accuses certain officers and directors of misleading investors in regard to Symbotic's potential for margin growth by failing to disclose that the company was not equipped to timely deploy its systems or manage expenses through project delays. The complaint was filed Sept. 4 in Connecticut District Court by attorney Robert M. Berke on behalf of former employee George Edward Steins, who was arrested and charged with employing an unregistered home improvement salesperson. The complaint alleges that had Sunrun informed the Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection that the plaintiff's employment had ended in 2017 and that he no longer held Sunrun's home improvement contractor license, he would not have been hit with charges, which were dismissed in May 2024.
