We've heard of firms that can use more time to submit nominations for the 2020 Georgia Legal Awards, so we have extended the deadline by one week. The new deadline is Monday, March 9, at 5 p.m.

The 2020 awards include three new categories, recognizing individual and firmwide innovation and a Law Firm of the Year award that assesses breadth of a firm's achievements. Two categories, Legal Innovators and In-House Impact, also open to all legal professionals, not just lawyers. Winners will be recognized in special newspaper sections in June and at an awards dinner June 24 at Flourish in Buckhead.

Below are summaries of the awards and their criteria. For complete information and to submit nominations, go to https://www.event.law.com/dailyreportonline-georgialegalawards/categories.

Most-Effective Deal-makers awards recognize deal-makers who get repeat business for how they achieve their clients' goals so that both sides sign on the dotted lines.

Legal Innovators, one of the new categories, honor efforts by individual lawyers and legal professionals who have come up with game-changing ideas for their practices or organizations and who were then able to turn those visions into reality.

In-House Legal Departments of the Year awards recognize Georgia's top in-house legal departments.

In-House Impact awards recognize an in-house lawyer or legal professional who had a significant accomplishment in 2019.

Litigation Departments of the Year awards will be presented to midsize firms (between 31 and 200 attorneys total, with any-sized Georgia presence) and small Firms (under 31 lawyers, including solo practices, with any-sized Georgia presence.) Awards for both size groups will be given for these practice areas: General Litigation; Appellate; Insurance; Intellectual Property; Labor and Employment; Personal Injury; Products Liability; White Collar; and Other Specialty Practice.

Most Innovative Law Firm awards, another new category, will go to both solo practitioners/small firms and larger firms/corporate in-house legal departments that have made strides in innovation.

The Law Firm of the Year award, also new, will go to the firm that has the best and most meritorious submissions across multiple categories.
