Hall Booth Smith's musically inclined lawyers and staff are holding a virtual concert on Thursday evening to benefit the Phoebe Putney Health System in Albany.
Called "HBS Songs for Phoebe Foundation," the benefit performance by the Atlanta-based firm aims to raise $5,000 for the Phoebe Foundation's COVID-19 relief fund. The nonprofit supports the Phoebe Putney Health System in Albany—one of the nation's hardest-hit regions from the pandemic.
The show's emcee, Hall Booth leader John Hall, said he came up with the idea from watching Elton John's "iHeart Living Room Concert for America" fundraiser for coronavirus aid in late March.
"Our firm has an amazing group of talented folks—about 20 people who play instruments and sing" and who frequently perform at firm events, said Hall. He thought putting on a Zoom concert would be "a fun way for us in the firm to get together and raise a little money for a place that needs it."
"I'm from South Georgia originally, so I knew of the issues in Albany," Hall added, while Phoebe Putney is a longtime firm client.
The living room performances will include many old favorites, themed for coronavirus. From Atlanta, marketing assistant Caitlin Meredith will sing "Don't Get Around Much Anymore," while legal secretary Lisa Crosby has chosen, "You've Got a Friend."
Nashville partner Karl Braun and his family are performing the country hit "Wagon Wheel" (originally written by Bob Dylan and popularized by Darius Rucker) and Atlanta partner Justin Kerenyi will sing "What a Wonderful World."
Hall Booth is contributing $1,500 toward the $5,000 fundraising goal, and client Coverys will match contributions up to $1,000.
The virtual concert will take place from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Thursday. To register or contribute, consult the Facebook page HBS Songs for Phoebe Foundation."
