A federal judge in Augusta is considering whether to allow a man struck and seriously injured by a Laurens County deputy sheriff during a traffic stop to back out of a $187,500 settlement after claiming his lawyers agreed to the deal without his permission.

Plaintiff Terrell Porter subsequently fired his lawyers and retained new counsel to argue that he was mentally incompetent due to his injuries at the time and unable to agree to any settlement.
