These days, Jim Butler of Butler Wooten & Peak, lion of the plaintiff’s bar, has been working on the side of corporate defense.

“We do it for friends,” he said in an interview. Those include: Synovus Bank, AFLAC, Hughston Clinic, all based in Butler’s hometown of Columbus, Georgia—although his firm also has offices in Atlanta and Savannah. Those “on-request” engagements have been “based on relationships we’ve had for a long, long time,” he said.
