Fourteen years ago, the Daily Report recognized Sarah Geraghty of the Southern Center for Human Rights as one of the On the Rise lawyers in Georgia. A graduate of the University of Michigan School of Law, who simultaneously earned a master’s degree in social work, Geraghty has proved her On the Rise recognition wasn’t a fluke.

Last year she brought a case for women with psychiatric disabilities, charged with nonviolent offenses, being held in isolation at the South Fulton Jail. A federal judge called the conditions “repulsive” and ordered Fulton County to fix the treatment immediately.
