Imagine the opening shot of a classic television police show, say “Hill Street Blues,” which starts with a “roll call” where officers meet to hear updates and instructions before they begin their shift. No one mentions those officers aren’t being paid to come in early for that daily pre-workday meeting. But it happens, according to the attorneys who’ve just settled a second roll call back pay lawsuit.

The time adds up. This latest agreement requires the Rockdale County Sheriff to pay $1.1 million—including $900,000 to fully compensate the officers for their time and $200,000 in legal fees and expenses, according to Greg Hecht of Hecht Walker and Danny Ragland of the Ragland Law Firm.
