After eight years as the top prosecutor for Bibb, Crawford and Peach counties, David Cooke lost in the 2020 Democratic primary to the new district attorney, Anita Howard, the first woman and the first African American to serve in that role. Cooke is now a partner at Macon plaintiffs firm Gautreaux Law.

Former Macon District Attorney David Cooke was one of the few members of the Georgia Trial Lawyers Association who wasn't a plaintiffs lawyer.
Now that he is a plaintiffs lawyer, he said he has found the people who do his old job and his new one are "cut from the same cloth."
