Atlanta’s newest Am Law 100 firm, McDermott Will & Emery, has hired a restructuring partner for the local office it opened last spring, while other firms in Atlanta have added to their core practices in corporate finance or commercial real estate, plus emerging areas like cybersecurity.

McDermott added partner Dan Simon from DLA Piper, after opening an Atlanta office last spring with a trio of M&A partners from DLA Piper: Frank Layson, Paul Puckett and Sam Snider. Layson, the office’s local managing partner, subsequently hired a four-lawyer IP litigation team from Kasowitz Benson Torres, plus cybersecurity partner Todd McClelland from Jones Day, for an initial eight-lawyer office.
