A Hall County jury awarded $3 million to the family of a woman who died a few days after suffering a punctured bowel during surgery at a Gainesville, Georgia, hospital in  the county’s first civil jury trial since COVID-19 restrictions were lifted.

Plaintiffs attorney Kenneth Lewis of Lewis & Murphy in Winder, Georgia, represented the mother and adult children of Frances Mitchell, 42, who died in 2016 after undergoing surgery at Northeast Georgia Medical Center.
