Judge Nathan Wade broke through—but then he felt stuck.

Wade’s appointment to the Marietta Municipal Court by Mayor Steve Tumlin in 2011 made him the city’s first black male judge. But after years of trying, he’s been unable to advance from the part-time municipal role. Wade has attempted to rise to the bench of a higher court at least three times.
