One year after more than 200 people’s homes were lost or damaged by a fire at the Avana on Main apartments in Atlanta’s Buckhead district, 55 residents have filed a negligence suit against the complex’s owners and managers, asserting that the blaze was caused by a malfunctioning rooftop HVAC system.

The complaint, filed Friday in Fulton County State Court, said a manager was on the roof servicing the system when the fire broke out Aug. 19, 2020.
