A surgeon accused of negligence that led to a patient becoming infected and losing part of his foot was cleared of liability by a DeKalb County jury on Thursday in the last trial to be conducted by State Court Judge Dax Lopez, who is leaving to enter private practice in September.

Lead defense attorney Paul Weathington said the plaintiffs lawyer asked for $13 million in closing.
