The University of Georgia School of Law in Athens announced it has named its rotunda after its first Black graduate, Chester C. Davenport.

The school is also commissioning a portrait of Davenport, which, once complete, will be placed at its main entrance. Davenport, who died in August 2020, was the school’s only Black student during his entire time there. He earned his law degree in 1966, finishing in the top 5% of his class and serving as a founding member of the Georgia Law Review’s editorial board.
