On Aug. 24, a Pennsylvania woman who coughed and spat on food in a Hanover Township supermarket in March of last year was sentenced to up to two years in jail and eight years of probation. After entering the supermarket but before spitting on the food, the woman yelled, “I have the virus. Now everyone is going to get sick.”

In addition to the sentence, the woman was ordered to pay nearly $30,000 in restitution. Having failed to get the charge dismissed, the woman had pleaded guilty to the “weapons of mass destruction” offense.
