A photojournalist who was swept up in the waves of arrests during last year’s Black Lives Matter protests in Atlanta has sued the city and officers who arrested him for constitutional and other claims, including the seizure of memory cards containing footage of the protests that were never returned.

According to a complaint filed in Atlanta federal court, Sharif Hassan was arrested June 1, 2021, for violating the city’s 9 p.m. curfew along with a number of other people despite having been photographing events for hours and telling officers he was working media.
