Ten months after taking office, Fulton County Sheriff Patrick “Pat” Labat has finally accomplished his goal to decrease overcrowding at the Fulton County Jail, at least to a small degree.

Labat announced in a Monday news release that he sent 100 Fulton inmates to the Cobb County Jail in Marietta on Saturday after entering into an agreement with Cobb Sheriff Craig Owens to house prisoners there. The Fulton jail was built to house 2,591 prisoners, but according to the release, today it’s holding nearly 3,100, with more than 300 having to sleep in makeshift beds called boats.
