Georgia's Equitable Caregiver Act establishes parental rights for nonbiological caregivers, but an opportunity to advance the law has been blown out like birthday candles.
Rather than rule whether the award of visitation rights to an adoptive mother's former domestic partner is constitutional under the statute, the Supreme Court of Georgia has instead found the challenge to be moot now that the daughter at the center of the litigation has turned 18.
