Between the announcement that the chief justice has COVID-19 and hearing an appeal of a highly publicized and horrific murder case, the Supreme Court of Georgia took time out for the business of celebrating the University of Georgia Bulldogs’ college football championship.

“Before we get into our arguments, we want to do something special,” Chief Justice David Nahmias said—right after announcing he has COVID-19, but his symptoms are mild he believes thanks to his vaccines and booster. “On behalf of the entire Supreme Court of Georgia, I want to congratulate the University of Georgia football team for its exceptional performance throughout the season, and especially during last week’s national championship victory over the University of Alabama.”
