In a surprise announcement, Georgia Supreme Court Chief Justice David Nahmias on Friday said he was quitting his job later this year.

In a resignation letter, Nahmias told Gov. Brian Kemp he will stay through the last day of the court’s April term, which is scheduled for July 17. After that, Nahmias said he plans to spend more time with his family and then begin a new chapter in his legal career.
