As a major retailer waits to learn if its employees are liable for a third-party accident, a ruling handed down by the Supreme Court of Georgia Tuesday has clarified a state law regarding securing loads on vehicles.

Drafted by Justice Charles Bethel, the 15-page appellate opinion established that Georgia law requires anyone assisting in loading items on another person’s vehicle for operation on a public road to securely fasten the load.
