The Chief Justice's Commission on Professionalism on March 19 hosted and sponsored the 22nd annual Justice Robert Benham Awards for Community Service at the Loudermilk Conference Center in downtown Atlanta. Since 1998, these accolades have been given to honor Georgia lawyers and judges who have made significant contributions to their communities and who demonstrate the positive contributions of members of the Bar beyond their legal or official work. The Lifetime Achievement Award, the commission's highest honor, was presented to Richard Gerakitis, partner at Troutman Pepper Hamilton Sanders, and S. Wade Malone, partner at Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough. This award is reserved for a lawyer or judge who, in addition to meeting the criteria for receiving the Justice Robert Benham Award for Community Service, has demonstrated an extraordinarily long and distinguished commitment to volunteer participation in the community throughout his or her legal career. The awards are given to chosen attorneys in the judicial districts of Georgia from which nominations were received. This year's other honorees are Michael D. St. Amand, partner at Gray, Rust, St. Amand, Moffett & Brieske; Lindsay Beth Gardner, managing attorney with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation; and Paul E. Weathington, senior partner at Weathington. These recipients have served a wide range of community organizations, government-sponsored activities and humanitarian efforts outside of their professional practices and judicial duties. All honorees are members of the State Bar of Georgia. For more information on the awards, visit http://cjcpga.org.
