Legislation forcing the U.S. Supreme Court to address recusal and other ethics issues is moving forward in Congress in the wake of a Jan. 6-related scandal involving Justice Clarence Thomas’ wife and the justice’s own vote in a Jan. 6 case.

Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse, D-Rhode Island, and Rep. Hank Johnson, D-Georgia, recently introduced the Twenty-First Century Courts Act, a broad measure addressing recusal, ethics codes, amicus briefs, travel disclosures and courtroom cameras, among other areas.
