Cobb County Superior Court Judge Robert Flournoy III explained in a conversation with the Daily Report Wednesday why he is going against the trend in recent judicial retirements.

Flournoy, who will turn 70 in August, chose not to run for reelection this year and plans to serve out his current term, which ends Dec. 31. He is leaving his job open in the judicial election to be held with the May 24 primary. Five candidates have qualified to run.
