The Georgia Legal Services Program depends on federal funding through the Legal Services Corp. as well as private donations. The Georgia group is planning to host a 50th anniversary fundraising dinner Thursday at the Foundry at Puritan Mill with Georgia Supreme Court Justice Verda Colvin as the keynote speaker.

State and national legal aid organizations are often the only option for low-income individuals to be represented in civil matters, but those who provide such services suffer from "chronic underfunding," according to a bipartisan group of attorneys general seeking "meaningful" federal support for the work. Meanwhile, the largest legal aid group in Georgia is seeking private donations.
