Attorneys with two Macon law firms have secured a $2.5 million arbitration verdict award in a wrongful death lawsuit regarding a woman who died after overdosing on a powerful painkiller provided to her while at a local hospital for a medical procedure.

In an April 29 decision, Gino Brogdon Sr. of Henning Mediation & Arbitration Service in Atlanta, a retired judge acting as an arbitrator, ruled in favor of the plaintiff, Kathryn Hawthorne, who sued the hospital’s health-care company and its key staff on behalf of her deceased mother, Norma Brown Kelly.
