A Birmingham law firm has secured a $3.7 million verdict in a unique case where a jury officially recognized a baby seven weeks from birth as a living human being within the context of wrongful death litigation.

The unborn baby, Adley Horton, died when her mother, Tiffany Horton, was seriously injured in a 2016 car crash caused by a drunken driver. The jury came to its decision April 21 during a three-day trial before Jefferson County Circuit Court Judge Tamara Harris Johnson.
